¿Same Old Lang Syne song? ¡Juxtaposed!

You may or may not have noticed, but sometimes I like to be vague & cryptic about my blogs. Sometimes it may seem like the blog is nothing more than a cool picture I took and a poem or quote. These usually have some crazy sounding name.

Take this one for instance. It may look like a picture I took in Old San Juan, of an old dark fort and a cemetery. With the ocean in the background and a old man, under an umbrella carving a new name into some family's marble stone. But I'm really talking about my day. About 2 conversations I had today. How if I was on the outside looking in on my life, I would expect the 2 similar conversations to switch places with each other.

I guess a picture and a crazy title are worth a thousand words! And some things never change!

Bienvenidos a la Casa de Playa

I'm back from Puerto Rico. I am uploading my pictures right now. You can see them in my Picasa Puerto Rico album. I will probably write a blog about my trip later in the week, once I have caught up on my sleep. I will be adding pictures later in the week so keep checking back. I have more pictures that need sorted through and some panoramics to make. The trip was a blast.

Humacao

Its 2:30am, so I should be on the road to Pittsburgh right now. Our flight leaves at 6:15am. After a brief stop at JFK we will be headed to sunny Puerto Rico. We rented a beautiful hacienda that’s real close to the beach. Check it out here. We are staying in Humacao, pronounced \u.ma.'ka.o\. Its on the eastern side of the island.



On my trip to Seattle I sent pictures to people from my iPhone as I was doing things. That was cool but I don’t feel like entering in a bunch of email addresses in my phone every time I want to send a picture. I figured out an easier way to do it this time. I set up a mobile blog so I can just send pictures to that and anyone that wants to see what I am doing can go check it out. This will depend on my phone coverage while I’m away, but I don’t think this will be to much of an issue. Here is the link to my mobile blog. I will be putting pictures up there as soon as I take them. Once I get back I will put up all of my photos on my Picasa web album.

Panoramio



Two weeks ago I was in Pittsburgh for a Security + class. Its a class on protecting computers from hackers and other interesting stuff. I learned lots of fun things :)

I was able to find a nice overlook and take the above picture. If you click on it you will get the full view. I also have the same picture taken during the day. I have recently learned to make panoramic photo's using Photoshop. Very cool stuff. To see more of some of the pictures I have taken visit My Panoramio.com site. I have uploaded quite a few pictures there. Only 2 of the photos there were not taken by me. Some of the recent ones are panoramic. The cool thing about the site is that if you map the photo's they will show up in Google Earth. Its nice if your going on vacation and want to see some of the local sites before you go.

Iron Man



Ok, it’s Sunday morning. I was out a little late the night before, but I’m on call for work, so I have to be up. The phone rings at 9:13am, I have to go to work. So I drive to State College, flip a couple of power switches, and everything is back on-line. What to do next?

Next, I decide I will kill some time by checking out a movie. It’s been a while since I have seen a movie. So I drive to the theater. Buy a ticket. Its 11:30 and I haven’t had breakfast so I buy some soda & some popcorn.

There are only 12 theaters but for some reason I have trouble finding #1. I’m not usually this bad with directions, but it’s early and I’m anxious to eat my breakfast.

I find a seat right in the middle, about half way up. I usually prefer to sit in the isle but so far the theater is mostly empty, also I’m trying to hide because it’s kinda sad to go see a movie by yourself. A few more people come in. Mostly couples with their kids. Some guy in his mid 40’s, at least I'm not the only person by myself. You’ll have that with comic book movies though. Then the strangest thing happens. This couple comes in. They are very out of place because they are 65’ish and they are not bringing any grandkids. They sit down in the row behind me, 2 or 3 seats to my left.

I have never been a big fan of Robert Downey Jr, I also don’t know anything about Iron Man, so I may not be the best person to review this movie. I was very surprised that Robert Downey Jr would be cast as Tony Stark aka Iron Man. I asked a friend who is a huge comic book fan/collector. He informed me that Tony Stark was a womanizing playboy millionaire & a recovering alcoholic. So now I’m thinking “type-cast”.

The move was great. Downey was hilarious and was perfect for the roll. He really gave Tony Stark an interesting personality. Jeff “The Dude” Bridges played the villain. I didn’t even recognize him in the movie. I recognized his voice but it wasn’t until tonight when I saw an interview with him online that I put the pieces together. The entire cast is great. The special effects are outstanding, right down to the cloud that appears when Iron Man breaks the Sound Barrier. The dialog is put together well and there are even some Laugh Out Loud moments.

There is one part in the movie that I specifically connected with. I won't tell you what happened in the movie but I will relate what happened to me and you can piece it together yourself. When I graduated from Army boot camp we were free to go spend the evening with our families. My mom asked me where I wanted to eat. I had already asked around and knew that there was a Burger King close by. Its not that I crave Burger King, I just wanted a cheeseburger, any cheeseburger. As long as it was big and greasy, with lots of cheese and ketchup. Some greasy salty french fries would be nice to. Burger King just happened to be the closest. I saw 3 guys from my platoon in there.

Now I am no movie critic, so you might be better off with what the older couple behind me though. The movie started out with the screen flashing pictures from an Iron Man comic book. At this point I heard the woman tell the man “This must be one of those comic book movies.” What!?!? How could they not know this? I was thinking that they were in for a disappointment. Soon enough they were laughing & Ooh’ing along with everyone else. When they got up to leave one of them said “That was really good.”

Anyone that has ever been to the movies with me knows that I always stay till after the credits roll. Sometimes there is something at the end (all 3 Pirates of the Caribbean movies in case you missed it). There is something at the end of this movie if you are interested in seeing it.

Cinco De Mayo

VIVA! Cinco De Mayo. This is definitely my favorite drinking holiday. I like it better than St. Patrick's day or Oktoberfest. Maybe its because of my love of good tequila. Whatever the reason, its the best party of the year. The last 2 years I have celebrated 4 days straight. No road trips this year though.

Wow, that was a flashback. Usually I will go through my journal and read what went on in previous years. Just as I was writing this I went back and looked at some of my blogs from last May. I had a lot going on back then. Its funny what a difference a year makes. I have to say the last two May's have been very interesting months for me. So far, this one has a lot of potential to keep up with and maybe surpass the last 2 years.

The above video is just a bunch of random clips of me, some of my friends and some people we don't really know having a blast. Some of it is from this Cinco De Mayo weekend, but a lot of it is over the last few months. I tried to keep the video as short as possible and still keep a wide variety of fun stuff. If I were to put up everything I recorded on my camera......., wow, I would have about an hour if I only used us singing "La Bamba"!

I cant remember the name of the guy that plays the classic rock. The other guy is Francisco. He doesn't speak much English. I have jokingly called him the Mexican Johnny Cash. I don't know enough Spanish to know what he is singing about, but I can feel the emotion from the song. My favorite song that he sings is "dios bendiga tu camino" It means "God bless your way". Its in the later half of the video. Its a long video but check it out. You may want to turn the volume down because usually we were drunk and loud when I recorded any of this. I just need to get him to learn my other 2 favorite Latin songs. Guantanaera & Solamente Una Vez. We have fun and its definitely a party. Come and join us some time. We are making new friends all the time!

This Cowboys Hat!

Just a warning!
I'm going to start this out with a funny story, and then end with a sad song.

About 2 1/2 years ago the above photo was taken. I remember that weekend fairly well.

Friday night I went out in Tyrone. Before I went out, I took some time shining up my combat boots. These pair of boots have a very special meaning to me. They used to belong to Mark. For those of you who don't know Mark, he is Heathers father. He was like my big brother. I don't even remember how long he has been gone, its been about 20 years I think, I can't remember anymore. The boots are older than that, but when I spend the time giving them a good spit shine you can see your reflection in them. My ex used to say that I was a different person when I wore them. She said that I stood taller, that I was more confident and outgoing. She always said that there was regular Scott and there was "Boot Scott". So the boots were looking like mirrors and I was out on the town. Some girl that I was friends with at the time, but not anymore, thought it would be funny if she scuffed up the boots. When I got upset she tried to get other people to do it. She was in a group with 2 other girls and some guy. They were all trying to mess with the boots. When I caught the guy trying to step on them when I wasn't looking, I stopped him and told him the story. He said "what, he wasn't a partier?" Mark's nickname was "Brain Damage", he definitely loved to party. So the guy assumed that Mark would of thought it was funny. I tried to politely explain that Mark was in the 82nd Airborne and scuffing the boots was a sign of disrespect. So then this dip shit asked me what Mark would have done. I told him that Mark would have punched him in the mouth, and then punched him in the mouth for each one of the three girls that were trying to step on the boots. He asked me if I was going to punch him in the mouth. All I said was "maybe". He said "oh" and that was the last time anyone has tried to step on the boots!

Saturday was the family reunion. It was the first family reunion since Dad passed. It was only the 2nd year that we'd had a reunion in many years. I wore dad's old hat, the one I'm wearing in the picture. After the family reunion we went to the cemetery. Then I went to the Highlander with my sister Vicki, my cousin Tim, & my cousin Johnathan. The Highlander is a totally different story that I wont get into now. Most of you don't need an explanation though! I suck at pool, but for a while I ran the table. As I was playing Johnathan I made a couple of very poor shots. Some guy that had his quarters on the table said something about my "hat being on to tight". Johnathan, who is normally laid back, got up in the guys face and said "Don't make fun of the Fucking Hat!" That was the end of that. The guy was very fortunate because, and if you know Tim you wont be surprised, Tim was getting ready to take a pool stick to the guy and his buddy.
