The Day the World "Almost" Ended!

The latest version of Y2K hysteria & panic passed through the night with hardly a notice. I think most people didn't even hear about it or it was to complicated to understand. The Large Hadron Collider LHC) fired up for the first time last night at 12:30 AM EDT. Strangely enough this didn't create a micro black hole that swallowed the earth. Apparently Stephen Hawking and I were both correct when we said this probably wouldn't happen.

to do a search today you may have wondered what the new Google image was. It was Google's tribute to the LHC.

Actually for all you would be paranoid Y2K freaks out there, this was just a firing test. They haven't actually created a collision yet. That wont take place until after the LHC is officially unveiled on 21 October. If those are the kinds of things that get inside your head then you don't even want to think about how the Mayan calendar ends on 12/21/2012. Or that the equator of the earth lines up with the galactic equator at just about the same time. Or that there are also 12 signs of the zodiac, 12 tribes of Israel, & 12 apostles. You know whats even scarier than that? Well if the scientist or the Mayans don't do us in then mark your calendar for Friday, April 13, 2029. That's when Asteroid 2004 MN4 will come very close to the earth. They initially predicted a 1 in 38 chance of it hitting the earth, but they have since refined their calculations and now say that its nothing to worry about.

I was actually thinking about staying up last night till 12:30 to write this blog, just so I could joke that "I stayed up, just in case". Instead here I am 24 hours later sitting in my audio rocker on my living room floor writing it. Waiting for my John Dobson video to upload to youtube. Listening to my cell phone as it sits on my bedroom floor and chirps at me to plug it in before the battery goes completely dead. Instead I went to bed early last night. My internal clock nudged me awake at 12:34 AM. Just in case. I rolled over and looked at the clock, smiled and went back to sleep.

Thinking about how its actually September 11th now. I already had that blog ready to go, maybe a year ago. The picture for that I probably had picked out the previous September. The tragedies write themselves. I guess that's my secret to writing. Don't write it, let it write itself.

So here I am, still sitting on the floor, a hour and a half later. I just wiped everything off of my myspace page, then spent the a hour looking at 911 videos on the internet. Now my page is basically a blank page with only a 911 tribute video i found on youtube and the comments section. To many people will forget. They will forget how lucky they are that it was just another day that the world "almost" ended.
